Oral grafts are common parts of restorative procedures. They help to build up the tissues that hold those restorations in place. The most common type of restorative procedure that often requires an oral graft is a dental implant.

However, that isn't the only time you may need an oral graft. Here are a few times where you may find yourself needing an oral graft to help get your mouth as healthy as possible.

Oral Grafts Become Necessary for Many Reasons

If you struggle with gum disease, there are many reasons you may need an oral graft. The most common oral graft we perform after gum disease treatment is a gum graft. This covers any areas where the gums may have receded during your ailment. Plus, this also helps your gums become strong enough to hold your teeth in place properly.

Before getting dental implants, depending on where you need them, you may also need an oral graft. When you need an implant in one of your front, upper teeth, getting a sinus graft is common. This helps make the sinus base strong enough to hold on to the implant, as without it, this bone is often paper thin.

You may also need a graft to build up the bone in the jaw following tooth loss. Getting dental implants is a great way to restore your smile after losing some teeth, but they require strong bones to stay put.

You may also need some type of an oral graft following some type of trauma to your face. This is typically done to repair injuries to your face, or your oral tissues.
