How Soon Can You Eat Following The Placement Of Temporary Implants?

Dental Implant South Valley Oral and Facial Surgery CA 95123-1220Dental implants are becoming increasingly popular these days simply because of the advantages it offers and the cosmetic value that it gives. The process would usually involve implant placement, placement of healing collar or temporary crown, and placement of permanent crown.

However, one of the concerns involved when choosing implants are its side effects, especially when doing daily routines like eating. It is a worry for some since disruption in eating habits can affect activities of daily living.

What Foods to Eat After Dental Implant Surgery?

After the implant is inserted, you have to wait for weeks for the bone to grow around the titanium implant. The dentist would use a temporary tooth (crown) that will be replaced with a permanent crown as soon as the implant has integrated and fuse to the jaw bone. It takes time to put together a new tooth so a temporary one is placed first.

With your temporary crown, the dentist will advise soft diet for weeks. This will facilitate healing and put less pressure on the new tooth. Soup and risottos are perfect nourishing foods to strengthen your body without affecting your implant. Yogurt is another soft alternative that will be a good source of nourishment to your system.

You can also eat oatmeal, shakes, smoothies, healthy juices and mashed fruits and veggies. Avoid hard food such as meat, toasts, peanuts and just about anything that will involve extreme munching. The longer the implant is not disturbed, the better it will be integrate into the jaw bone, and the more successful it will be.

As much as possible, try to minimize chewing stress on the implant because it is still in its healing process. If you have questions, inquiries about dental implants, or if you are interested, feel free to drop by at our office.
