A broken jaw is no fun, and if it does not heal properly, it can lead to a lifelong problem. You could struggle with pain the rest of your life if you are not careful. However, unless you were hit and have an obvious break in the bone, it can be easy to miss a broken jaw in some circumstances. You may have a fracture from something like an accident, and not realize it right away. Signs You Have a Broken JawIf you have pain in your jaw, it could mean a lot of things. However, it is rare you would automatically think you had a broken jaw. You would need to have a number of other symptoms as well to point to something that severe. You should also look for swelling. The likeliness is you would also have pain whenever pressure was put on the fractured area. The area that got hurt is likely going to be red, and there will also probably be bruising around the broken area. You may have difficulty chewing up food, or possibly even difficulty breathing when doing anything. If the pain goes from tolerable to severe and nothing seems to help, it is very important you call us and get seen as soon as possible.
