Oral Lumps Are Something You Need to See Us For

Posted on 7/20/2019 by Dr McMurray
Oral Lumps Are Something You Need to See Us ForMany people notice oral lumps in their mouth at some point in their life. They may try to ignore the lumps with the hope they will go away. The problem is that the lumps are a result of something happening.

The issue may not be a big problem, but it could be something that requires help. Because it is not easy for a person to self-diagnose the oral lumps, it is a good idea to schedule an appointment with our office to check them out.

The Many Causes of Oral Lumps

The biggest problem with oral lumps is that there are many different causes for them. Some of the lumps are not a big deal and will go away with either no or little treatment efforts. It is possible that there are over the counter medications that can help resolve the oral lumps.

While this is the case with some oral lumps, it is not the case with all. It is not always easy to tell the difference between a problem that will go away on its own or one that needs the help of the professionals in our office.

Some of the common causes for oral gums include trauma, such as burning the gums with hot food. Canker sores and cold sores can also cause a lump. These are some of the issues for which home remedies may help. Hormones released during pregnancy can cause the lumps.

There are also other reasons for oral lumps that require more help. Infections and abscesses can cause the lumps and do not go away with a home remedy. Oral cancer is another reason for oral lumps and is not something to delay treating.

What to Do
If you notice oral lumps, you do have a few choices about what to do. You can ignore them and hope they go away. You can try a home remedy or two. These methods may work, but they are not the best option. The best option is to come to our office to have the lumps checked out to make sure they are not something more serious.

For more information about this or any other oral health issue, contact our office to schedule an appointment.
