Gentle Brushing is Essential for Cleaning Areas After Oral Surgery

Gentle Brushing is Essential for Cleaning Areas After Oral SurgeryAfter undergoing an oral surgery, the recovery process is crucial. When recovering, you need to maintain high hygiene standards. This will help stop the spread of bacteria and prevent oral infections. Depending on the type of surgery, how you clean your teeth matters. Gentle brushing is crucial in helping keep your mouth clean.

Cleaning Your Mouth

Many people have challenges cleaning their teeth after undergoing oral surgery. This is due to the open wound and the fear of dislodging it. However, it is important to ensure that you clean your teeth despite the condition. You can do so by brushing and flossing gently to get rid of bacteria. The focus is ensuring that you do it gently. Rough and aggressive brushing can dislodge the blood clot and cause bleeding. This will also increase the risk of developing other infections.

Apart from brushing and flossing your teeth, you should also brush your tongue. This will help remove any bacteria and get rid of bad breath. It will also help remove the unpleasant taste that often comes with a tooth extraction. Gentle brushing will also help avoid staining. If you go for days without cleaning your teeth, stains will accumulate and cause an unpleasant discoloration. This can affect your smile significantly.

Apart from brushing, you should also gently rinse your mouth with warm saltwater. Rinsing it after meals will help keep food particles out of the extraction site. However, you should avoid rinsing your mouth vigorously because it can dislodge the blood clot. If you have hypertension, we will advise on whether using warm salt water is ideal. It is important to avoid using mouthwash, especially in the early healing period, because it can cause corrosion. Visit our offices for more information on the importance of gentle brushing when healing.
