What Is a Cone Beam Image

Posted on 8/22/2022 by Dr McMurray
What Is a Cone Beam ImageCone-beam computed tomography is a digital form of x-ray that provides 3D images of the mouth. It can also provide images of the soft tissue such as the tongue and gums. The cone-beam image is non-invasive and has less exposure to radiation. We are going to go through other factors that make the technology better.

Cone Beam and Traditional CT

Conventional CT uses x-ray tubes that are anode to produce the radiations into the mouth. They are fan-shaped or spiral for imaging. Conventional CTs are expensive and bulky to purchase because of their size.

Cone beams have medical fluoroscopy tools that are attached to produce the radiation. They produce significantly less radiation and have better imagery such as 3D images. Come beam imagery devices are cone shaped as the name suggests. They are smaller and cheaper to purchase Cone beam imagery has a wide range of uses that include imaging the maxillofacial region of the mouth. The images are used when making bone grafts and when installing dental implants. The beam imagery can also be used to check the progress of the dental implants. Cone Beam imagery can also be used to detect dental problems such as cavities. They can also help detect jaw and nerve-related issues.

Advantages of Cone Beam CT

Most dentists are adopting the use of cone-beam technology instead of conventional CT. The Cone Beam Imagery provides a lower radiation approach to imagery. It also has high-resolution images with great detail compared to normal x-rays. The Cone Beam Imagery can be used to scan tissues as well as bones. The images produced from the Cone Beam technology are 3D hence more information to the dentist. Cone Beam technology is painless and non-invasive. It is also effective due to the fast single rotation scan.

Recommendation.

Cone beam technology is safe and very practical. Most hospitals are adopting the use of Cone Beam Imagery because of the detail hence better diagnosis. Visit our team of experts for dental scans and medication.
