All-on-4® Treatment Concept San Jose CAThe All-on-4® Treatment Concept provides a cost-effective solution that provides patients with a full prosthesis. It’s a revolutionary procedure where dental implant posts are placed at their exact position, allowing your prosthodontist to rebuild a complete set of dental bridges locking over each implant post. These bridges are supported by up to four or six dental implants fabricated from materials such as monolithic zirconia, titanium, and porcelain stacked to a cobalt-chromium frame. At South Valley Oral and Facial Surgery, our doctors, Dr. McMurray and Dr. Chehrehsa, recommend All-on-4 dental implants to patients who are missing multiple teeth. Why Choose All-on-4?There are many shortcomings associated with traditional styles of dentures that simply sit over the gums. For example, it isn’t uncommon for their premature loosening of dental adhesives, which can create an embarrassing situation for wearers. Moreover, the dental adhesive also restricts what the wearer can and can’t eat. This can adversely affect the quality of their life. A major disadvantage of wearing dentures is the gradual loss of bone density due to missing teeth. When a tooth is in its place, it exerts pressure on the bone through natural movements such as eating. This pressure is key to bone growth and strength. Loss of this tooth reduces the pressure on the bone, leading to loss of bone density and strength over time. Dentists recommend the All-on-4 dental implant solution because it provides a superior outcome in almost all cases. It provides the same stimulus as natural teeth that prevents loss of bone density and maintains jawbone strength. The All-on-4 Treatment Concept also offers a more durable connection for the replacement teeth. This allows patients to enjoy nearly every type of food without worrying about their implants coming loose at any time. Benefits of All-on-4 ImplantsAll-on-4 implants offer many benefits, such as improvement in chewing ability and overall comfort. They can also improve the patient’s cosmetic appearance, making them appear younger and more confident. More importantly, the procedure preserves the jawbone and prevents further deterioration of facial aesthetics associated with missing teeth. All-on-4 dental implants reduce wrinkles associated with missing teeth and bone loss density. Oral hygiene becomes easy for the patient. Daily brushing and flossing, as well as regular visits to a skilled dentist at South Valley Oral and Facial Surgery will ensure that the new teeth will stay clean and healthy for years to come. The All-on-4 ProcedureBefore starting treatment, our dental surgeon will study the distance between the top and bottom jaws of the patient. This ensures that the correct distance is always preserved during the procedure. It is important to measure this distance accurately to preserve the patient’s facial structure and keep their jaw in the same position as it was before the procedure. The surgery begins once the anesthesia is administered. Any remaining teeth will be extracted, and any damaged gum tissue will be cleared out. This requires tooth extraction of damaged teeth. After tooth extraction is complete, an incision is made along the ridge on both jaws to expose the bone for ridge reduction. Ridge reduction occurs by removing the predetermined measurements of the bone from the top and bottom arches. Any remaining bone is smoothened out and prepared for the insertion of dental implants. This clears the way for placing new dental implants. The surgeon will drill holes at strategic angles to improve the strength and stability of the implants while avoiding contact with other parts of the facial features, such as sinus cavities and nerves. Once the implants are properly inserted, the surgeon replaces the tissue around the implants. The surgeon will now place abutments for a secure fit. The abutments will be used to mount replacement tooth prostheses. A temporary prosthesis will be prepared and secured in place with the help of mechanical fasteners. The bite pattern will be inspected, and any irregular contact points will be corrected for the appropriate occlusion of the jaw. Patient RecoveryThe patient will be provided with a general set of instructions for oral care. Since this is major surgery, the patient will be put on pain relievers and given instructions on how to clean the mouth to accelerate healing. Our dentist may also schedule follow-up appointments to monitor progress. For the first few months, the patient will be put on a soft-food diet to allow the implants to integrate with the surrounding jaw properly. The dental implants are made from strong materials that are highly effective at forming a solid and secure bond with the organic material that makes up the bone. The bonding process should be complete after about four months, at which time the patient may be able to eat firmer foods, such as nuts and vegetables. The patient will be asked to return to the dentist for another set of impressions which will be used to make the final prosthesis. The dentist will remove the temporary prosthesis so that the permanent prosthesis matches the exact shape and contours of the fully healed implants and gums. The procedure will be complete after the final prosthesis has been attached. The patient can now start their life with their permanent set of teeth.
